Professor David Kunzle at the University of California, Los Angeles gave a presentation comparing communist mass murderer Che Guevara to Jesus Christ, according to Campus Reform.
I wonder which act of Che’s David found most indicative of justice, peace, and love. Was it the killing of dogs for fun as a kid? How about the torture and executions? Che had outright admitted that the firing squad took lives “without knowing if [people] were fully guilty. At times, the Revolution cannot stop to conduct much investigation; it has the obligation to triumph.”
The professor showed a photo of Che’s face superimposed on the Statue of Liberty. Che’s Lady Liberty might have slightly different text: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses…so that I can send them to death by firing squad.”
David asserted that Che’s name resembled a “sacred trinity of letters.” What’s so sacred about “C-H-E?” I mean, those can be used to spell “chess” and “cheese” — I’m a fan of both of those, but don’t know if I’d call them sacred.
The professor also depicted Che with a halo and crown of thorns.
In an profound display of tolerance, compassion, and all of those other lefty buzzwords, pro-Palestinian students and others at UCLA disrupted an event hosted by the school’s Students Supporting Israel chapter, reported The Tower.
“Free, free Palestine” is a meaningless slogan since Palestinians have rejected a two-state solution numerous times, but at least it’s a platitude made up of words whereas when you use whistles, you’re not even shutting down others’ speech with your own speech, you’re shutting down others’ speech with senseless noise and proving that you have absolutely nothing, not even a infantile chant, with which you can replace it.
The protesters demand justice…but from whom? Twenty-year-old Californian students don’t exactly have it in their power to give your Palestinian people — whose hardships you’ve ironically probably never experienced if you’re at UCLA — 80, 90, or 100% of Israel.
Those who disrupt events don’t seem to care about conversations that might lead to their stated objectives, as wishy-washy as those are, or even a compromise. They want power. Submission. Dominance.
The Louis D. Brandeis Center, which fights anti-Semitism on college campuses, sent a letter to UCLA alleging that the disruption violated three parts of the California criminal code for “deliberate disruption,” “malicious disturbance of the peace,” and “conspiracy to violate” the other two.
But UCLA didn’t file a criminal complaint against the individuals who disrupted the event, so now at least six students ARE filing them. A prosecutor will address the case in July and hopefully this event will teach left-wing students that free speech does not include the right to shut other speech down.
Attendees of a Muslim American workshop proposed that the United States bans anti-Sharia laws, strikes the First Amendment protection of hate speech, and “define terrorism fairly.”
UCLA’s school of public affairs hosted its second annual Muslim American workshop last Friday, apparently to “share, collaborate and exchange ideas on Muslim American scholarship and how to advance research in this multifaceted area,” reported Campus Reform.
The group used funds from National Science Foundation to conduct the event, which featured some bashing of President Trump. Boston University political science professor Spencer Piston presented a study describing Trump as “Islamophobic,” using the same smear popularized by a UK equalities chief who, last year, distanced himself from the term, saying “I thought Muslims would blend into Britain…I should have known better.”
At least one workshop attendee suggested banning anti-Sharia laws in the US, as well as eliminating the First Amendment’s protection of hate speech, which would mean eradicating anything from laws protecting free speech and “blasphemy” to those prohibiting forced marriage and trying a rape victim for adultery or even sanctioning a rapist’s marriage to his victim in place of punishment, all, of course, in addition to the more infamous human rights violations like stoning and beheading. These things are prevalent in the Islamic world…why are we looking to adopt laws tolerating the intolerable in civilized society?
But on a more ideological level, the left should actually support anti-Sharia measures because it has always been concerned with the separation of church and state.
From feminists to Islamists, the radical left absolutely dreads free discourse because while they may be too lazy or rash to use it, while they may prefer shouting those mindless “no fascist USA” chants to shut down anyone who’s to the right of Trotsky, they also recognize the power of language. Now, more than ever, we can’t let them take that away.
