Asao Inoue, a University of Washington academic, purportedly “investigates racism in writing assignments (e.g. writing programs, writing placement, etc.), which includes classroom writing assessments. About half of [his] work is theoretical, while the other half is empirical in nature.” Inoue is traveling across the country to American University in D.C. next month to give a workshop to faculty entitled “Grading ain’t just grading: Rethinking writing assessment ecologies towards antiracist ends,” reported The College Fix.
Inoue will teach faculty about “the ways that White language supremacy is perpetuated in college classrooms despite the better intentions of faculty, particularly through the practices of grading writing.”
“White language supremacy.” What are these people on? Like “oh hey, what language do you speak?” “I speak English.” “Oh, yeah? Well, I speak white.” And American University isn’t the first school where Inoue has introduced this absolute hogwash, either. No, he’s also the director of the University of Washington at Tacoma’s writing center. In fact, the first time I ever got on the Drudge Report as a journalist was when I covered a poster that the UW writing center hung, which insisted that American grammar was a “racist,” “unjust language structure.”
The poster said “We promise to emphasize the importance of rhetorical situations over grammatical ‘correctness’ in the production of texts” and “We promise to challenge conventional word choices and writing explanations.”
Not following objective standards of English might not result in UW Tacoma writing students being very happy when they apply for jobs.
University Busted For Over $100,000 In Free Speech Lawsuit
The University of Washington’s College Republicans chapter sued the school after UW tried to charge the group $17,000 in security fees for the rally, according to The Seattle Times. And now, the school has to pay $122,500 to two law firms that defended the students, as well as strike down the policy it used to charge security fees.
The conservative students’ argument was pretty straightforward: the security fees violated their free speech rights. They had backup from UW’s own law school: 23 professors there asked the university to settle the case.
This is one occasion you’ll hear me agreeing with professors. Security fees are discriminatory because they’re based on how likely a speaker is to attract political violence and as we all know, one side of the political aisle is a LITTLE bit more inclined to use political violence. This is largely why when Lewis Farrakhan, who called Hitler a “very great man,” came to UC Berkeley, the school charged a security fee of $1,900, but when Ben Shapiro visited, the school charged the Berkeley College Republicans over $15,000.
And it was no different with UW. Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson has been assaulted at rallies in the past and has received death threats, facts the school mentioned when justifying its $17,000 security fee. Fortunately, a US district court judge stepped in with a restraining order, letting the College Republicans carry on with their event.
Now, I do take exception to one part of the settlement, this weird caveat which allows UW to create “constitutionally permissible security fees.” We’ll have to find out what those look like, but one thing’s for sure: STUDENTS shouldn’t have to shoulder the cost for other people’s inability to counter speech with more speech instead of fists, pepper spray, and bike locks…but who should foot the bill?
Antifa Assaults College Republicans With Paint
Are you an Antifa activist and want to be taken seriously? Here’s what you do: dye your hair orange so your clownish appearance matches your clownish ideology and then assault your local College Republicans chapter with black paint. That’s what an Antifa goon did at the University of Washington, according to KIRO 7. The Antifa ginger got charged with 4th degree assault and will appear in court. But the very next day, UW College Republicans were under attack again.
Protesters rationalized their behavior, which included shouting in front of the College Republicans’ booth, sitting on their booth, and removing the sign, with “these people are a joke” and “I’m indifferent [to their ideology]”
Well, thanks for the boilerplate response, UW. Actions speak louder than words but sometimes at UW, actions are words and those words are pretty scary. Free speech nonprofit FIRE, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, gave UW a yellow light-rating due to vague speech policies that could be weaponized to punish students.
But get this, the UW Tacoma campus has something even zanier: its college writing center has a poster that calls American grammar a “racist,” “unjust language structure,” reported The Daily Caller News Foundation. The poster says “racism is the normal condition of things” and the Center promises to prioritize rhetoric over “grammatical ‘correctness,’” with correctness in scare quotes presumably because basic rules of English grammar are, like everything else these days, just another social construct.
Feminist Scholar Ties Pelicans To ‘Racialized, Sexual Violence’
We humans have to deal with social justice every day but you would think at least animals would be safe from it, right? Not. So. Fast. It turns out pelicans are somehow related to “racialized, sexual violence,” at least according to a feminist scholar.
The University of British Columbia invited University of Washington gender studies graduate student Logan O’Laughlin to give a presentation called “Queer Toxic Ecologies: Analyses and Implications of the Pelicans of the BP Oil Spill,” reported The Daily Caller News Foundation.
“Utilizing feminist discourse analysis of pelicans in post-spill popular media and historical analysis of pelicans as the state mascot of Louisiana, this presentation articulates how this bird is symbolically and materially implicated in a history of racialized, sexual violence,” said O’Laughlin.
Yes, you heard that right. Pelicans…are “implicated in a history of racialized, sexual violence.”
